  1. Shell-and-Tube Heat Exchanger:

    • Consists of a shell (casing) containing a bundle of tubes.
    • One fluid flows through the tubes, and the other flows around the outside of the tubes within the shell.
    • Commonly used in industrial applications and in processes involving high pressure and temperature differences.
  2. Plate Heat Exchanger:

    • Consists of a series of metal plates with corrugated surfaces.
    • Fluids flow through alternate channels formed by the plates, facilitating heat transfer.
    • Compact and efficient design, commonly used in HVAC, refrigeration, and industrial processes.
  3. Finned-Tube Heat Exchanger:

    • Uses tubes with extended surfaces (fins) to increase the heat transfer area.
    • Commonly employed in air-cooling applications, such as radiators in automobiles and air-conditioning systems.
  4. Double-Pipe Heat Exchanger:

    • Simple design with two concentric pipes or tubes.
    • One fluid flows inside the inner tube, while the other flows in the annular space between the inner and outer tubes.
    • Often used in low-temperature and low-pressure applications.
  5. Plate-Fin Heat Exchanger:

    • Consists of layers of flat plates with fins between them.
    • Suitable for applications where compactness and efficiency are critical, such as in aircraft heat exchangers.
  6. Regenerative Heat Exchanger:

    • Utilizes a rotating or moving matrix to alternately absorb and release heat between two fluid streams.
    • Commonly used in regenerative thermal oxidizers and some industrial processes.
  7. Adiabatic Wheel Heat Exchanger:

    • A type of regenerative heat exchanger that uses a rotating wheel with a desiccant material to transfer heat and moisture between two air streams.
    • Often employed in HVAC systems for humidity control.
  8. Air-to-Air Heat Exchanger (Heat Recovery Ventilator - HRV or Energy Recovery Ventilator - ERV):

    • Specifically designed for transferring heat between two air streams in ventilation systems.
    • Helps recover heat from exhaust air and transfer it to incoming fresh air, improving energy efficiency.

The choice of heat exchanger type depends on factors such as the application, fluid properties, temperature and pressure requirements, space constraints, and efficiency considerations. Each type has its advantages and limitations based on the specific needs of the system it is designed for.
